Program in detail

We split our asana classes between Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Yoga. You will practice 3 Ashtanga and 3 Vinyasa classes per week.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a pre-set sequence of postures linked by the breath. Through the practice of breathing, postures, and gazing points, the practitioner slowly gains control of the senses and mind. Over time, with repeated practice, it unfolds into a moving meditation. The mind becomes calmer, and slowly we are able to clear away the clutter. That's when the light of yoga begins to shine. This is the transformational beauty of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

The morning Vinyasa classes are designed to complement the theory covered in "Teaching Skills." No two Vinyasa classes are alike, allowing creativity and also intelligent sequencing.

In these classes, you will deepen your practice, notice how the teaching skills are put into practice, and learn to work with your body in a more skillful and effective way.

Learn essential sequencing principles in order to create your own Vinyasa Flow classes. Look at the difference between sequencing for beginners versus intermediate students.

The different types of Vinyasa classes covered are:

  • peak pose class
  • well-rounded class
  • peak per-flow

In addition, teaching skills can include how to:

  • demonstrate asanas.
  • maintain group energy.
  • modify asanas.
  • work with a mixed level of practitioners class.
  • give verbal instructions.
  • use your voice as a yoga teacher.

There will be lots of practical teaching, planning, guidance, and feedback on how to improve all these teaching skills. You will observe, teach and receive constructive feedback from your fellow students and your teacher.

More than 51 yoga postures will be examined in terms of:

  • Correct and safe positioning of the body.
  • Common misalignments, misconceptions, and tendencies that you may not be aware of.
  • Modifications for even the most advanced poses, using props or not, set you on a safe path toward the goal of the pose. This means that wherever your body is now, you will know what is the correct road to take from now on.
  • What is the best option that you can offer to your students, based on their level?
  • Once you do the full expression, where do you take it from there? That's where we introduce the "Advanced variations".
  • The art of hands-on adjustments. You will get lots of opportunities to practice them with your fellow students. At the same time, you will receive constant feedback from them and your teacher.

Breaking down complex postures like lotus (Padmasana), headstand (Sirsasana), transitional push-ups (Chaturanga Dandasana), jump back & jump through, as they deserve more attention and time.

Learn how to recognize when your body is ready to attempt them, how to progress, and how to teach them to others.

We teach pre-requisite steps that include preparation exercises, appropriate warm-ups, and requirements for the full expression of these postures. These classes will bring safety, awareness, and mindfulness to your practice and teaching. They are a game-changer 🙂

You will explore functional yoga anatomy and how to safely deepen your practice through your body. You will learn about the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems through a comprehensive breakdown of the regions of the body most applicable to yoga practice.

Through practical application, you will investigate the different types of connective tissues, experience the movements of the joints, and connect with your fascial body.

You will leave with a more profound yoga-related anatomical understanding of your own and your students' bodies.

Yoga philosophy is interwoven throughout the course.

You will explore what yoga really is; its meanings, significance, ethics, and practices in the past and present. We investigate the roots of the practice; the Vedic tradition and its culture, myths, mantra chanting, bandhas, kriyas, and their meaning.

We continue the evolutionary paths of both classical and modern yoga practices. You will be introduced to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and the Bhagavad Gita, gaining insight into their commentaries.

We will discuss how to integrate yoga philosophy into our everyday life.

This course is conducted in English and it's open to all yoga practitioners who like dynamic styles of yoga. Students with injuries and health issues are encouraged to attend this training. Injuries always make you a better teacher.

The mind works like an umbrella - it works best when open. That's why, the most important is that the applicant arrives with an open mind, an eagerness to learn, and is ready to be a student. If you have these values, we welcome you with open arms.

Upon successful completion of the practical and written assignments, you will receive a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certificate of completion.

Thus, you will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance USA and Yoga Alliance UK as a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200). Yeah :-))

How is this all possible in just 3 weeks?

At Alpha Yoga School...

We don't teach multi-style yoga training.

You will not learn a myriad of styles, such as acro yoga, chair yoga, Hatha yoga, prenatal yoga, or postnatal yoga. Instead, you will maintain focus.

Therefore, you won't leave with scattered knowledge.

You won't learn how to perform anything.

We won't waste your time on how to do cacao or fire ceremonies, ecstatic dance ceremonies, love circles, etc. You can find that on shorter courses or yoga retreats. There's no time to waste in a 200-hr YTT.

You will focus on establishing a strong foundation first.

From solid practice and skills, your true passion and favorite niche can finally be discovered.

About the program

This 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Greece is not just designed to train you to become a yoga teacher. It’s a foundational course designed for all yogis who love dynamic styles of yoga.

It is ideal for serious yoga students who wish to deepen their existing practice, for those who want to learn about other aspects of yoga, and for those who want to teach yoga.

It's also suitable for yoga instructors who want to learn other styles of yoga.

You will obtain a solid self-practice based on the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga works with a set of postures that open, strengthen, and purify the body. It’s a challenging and moving meditational practice.

This ability will allow you to take your practice away from the studio and to practice on your own anytime, anywhere correctly, and safely.

By the end of this 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, you will obtain the skills and the confidence to teach Vinyasa Yoga classes. This is our promise.

By the way, did you know that we get students in our 300-hour courses who have taught ONLY one asana in their 200-hour YTT? This doesn't happen in our 200hr YTT. You will teach a lot, I mean a lot...

You will practice teaching in a safe environment where it's totally OK to make mistakes.

Teach yoga to your fellow students. Give and receive constructive feedback from them and your teacher. You will have fun in these classes while growing as a teacher.

We encourage each student to discover and develop a unique style and voice as a teacher.

200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Greece Europe - Overview

Ashtanga Yoga 3 times /week - the only Yoga style which helps you deepen your practice and at the same time discover yourself beyond the physical body.

Vinyasa Yoga 3 times/week - the modern style of yoga that allows you to move freely in a creative yet challenging way. Prepare to sweat.

Teaching skills (confidence in verbal instructions, sequencing, and demonstration).

Hands-on adjustments (a module which you won't find in other 200-hour YTT).

Modifications, variations of postures, and how to use the props. If you are new to yoga and want to practice safely, this is super helpful. If you want to deepen your practice, props can definitely do that.

Alignment breakdown for 51 yoga poses. Everyone's favorite subject, where you will not only learn how to place yourself correctly in poses but also have lots of fun.

Functional anatomy is where you learn about your body. This knowledge helps you create safe yoga classes so that your students will not get injured, but will also make progress.

Breathing and meditation techniques. This is the study of the breath so that you can learn how to control the breath and the mind in stressful situations off the mat.

Yoga philosophy is where you find answers to deeper questions. While the asana section of the program explains all about how to practice yoga, Yoga Philosophy finally dives into 'the WHY you practice yoga'.

The business of yoga and marketing yourself as a teacher so that you learn how to get your first clients, how to get paid, and how to work your way up the "yoga ladder". Or forget the ladder.

Workshops for challenging poses. No more forcing your body into a shape that it's not ready for. Getting the correct and safe direction, instead of getting lost, frustrated, or injured. Game changer!

Teaching short flows to your fellow students and receiving constructive feedback from them and your teacher. Do you play with your hair while teaching? Do you stand like a soldier? Do you have filler words, words that should not be there? Step into the position of a teacher and see if you like teaching.

Real people, real experience...

Find our testimonials here:

Joanna and Martin are excellent teachers. Martin will definitely teach you how you should improve your alignment so you actually feel something and get the real benefits. I for instance have always thought that I will have to practice some more years to begin with arm balances but after a good preparatory Vinyasa class of Joanna I was in side crow and other crazy asanas which felt amazing! Thank you for those moments! And receiving adjustments from such talented and experienced teachers as Martin and Joanna is such a treat. To whom would I recommend this YTT? If you love doing yoga, you don’t fear sweating (Ashtanga!), are a curious person and would love to spend a good time in wonderful Greece – go for it!

Nora TabeaEngland, UK

I decided to do yoga teacher training, not with the intention to become a yoga trainer, but to improve my knowledge about yoga and especially alignment. I did a lot of research... In the end I chose Alpha because of the very personal contact with Joanna from the beginning. She was very open, helpful, friendly and gave me the support I needed. These attributes I felt during the whole training. Joanna and Martin are very open, lovely persons and funny (especially Martin). They always take the time for your questions and wishes. During the whole training Joanna and Martin were very close to the whole group. I improved my alignment and learned to feel my body with a lot more attention. Also mentally I developed new strength and find back some of my positivity, gratefulness and calmness that I lost a bit in the stressfully daily-life at home.

Gesine Matter

If you search for a high quality yoga teacher training, which challenges you, makes you laugh and opens new perspectives of living your life, you should choose this one! It was an incredible time, we learned so much about our own body, yoga philosophy and how to teach in a safe and good way. I came as a yoga loving girl and left as a yoga loving teacher with a bag full of new friends and unforgettable memories. It was on the one hand really challenging and exhausting and on the other hand such an intense, emotional, wonderful time with a wonderful group of people and wonderful teachers!! I highly recommend this yoga teacher training! Lots of Love Lea

Hi Joanna and Martin, I have some news, I quit my job yesterday. This is quite a step for me, especially considering I do not have a “follow up” job yet. This is quite scary for me to be honest and I am 100% sure I would never have done this a few months ago, but I am so happy that I was now courageous enough for this step and I am excited to see what comes next.

The space you held at the YTT in Lefkada, meeting you two and all these other wonderful and inspiring people really gave me the courage and strength to listen to my inner self and take this step.
Let’s see what will happen! And my plan is actually to take off a couple of months before starting a new job and travel to Australia to visit the three lovely girls from our YTT who live there and whom I miss very much!

Julia Appel from SwitzerlandI quit my job

Hey Joanna, how are you? I wanted to reach out and give you an update. I’ve been practicing yoga so much, I feel myself not aligning with fitness the same anymore. I almost feel guilty for not wanting to do extreme fitness it’s the most bizarre experience. I never expected my life to change so much after making the decision to do the course. Looks like my life path is changing even more than I thought. I’m changing everyday and I can’t quite believe I’m shredding away old versions of me rapidly. It’s been very intense.
Honestly, that course changed my life! Thank you for everything that you Martin and Aris taught me.
Missing you! I hope you are all well ❤️
I’m coming back so I’ll see you next year 😂

Megan Murrie from the UKThank you

This teacher training was fantastic. One of the most valuable things was taking the asanas back to basics — understanding the foundations really enabled me to deepen my practice and correct the mistakes I had been making unknown for years. More than just the asanas, the course places physical practice in the broader philosophy and helped me understand that yoga is about so much more than what happens on the mat.

Jenni SmoutEngland, UK

You made everyone feel so welcome and supported throughout this challenging and intensive journey. I am definitely missing the group energy and the fun morning Ashtanga and Vinyasa flows! I just did my first Mysore style class and it was a unique and new experience for me. This YTTC will be an experience I will never forget and I'm so happy I went on this journey - thank you for it all!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is your 200-hour YTTC suitable for beginners?

Yes, beginners can enroll in the Yoga Teacher Training course at Alpha Yoga School. Our 200-hour course is open to all levels of yoga practitioners, with no prior experience required. What matters most is arriving with an open mind and eagerness to learn. You will deepen your practice no matter where you are at the moment.

Are there any exams or assessments during the 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training?

Yes, assessments include an assignment covering anatomy, philosophy, and asana modules, a practical assessment via peer teaching, and a practical exam on adjustment and alignment. If needed, there are options for re-takes before the course completion, and individual support is provided to ensure readiness.

I don’t practice Ashtanga Yoga. Can I join this yoga teacher training course?

Definitely yes!
We don't expect students to be masters of Ashtanga or inversions. We are here to teach you everything during the course.
The asana classes are split equally between Ashtanga yoga and Vinyasa yoga and the Ashtanga classes will progress slowly, class by class.
In our 200-hour training, we focus on the first sequence called the Primary series. During the yoga course, we break it down.
We explain in detail the correct and safe alignment for each asana.
We teach you modifications and preparations for even the most difficult poses. This is a course where you will immerse deeply into Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Most students fall in love with Ashtanga after this course.
An equal amount of time will be dedicated to Vinyasa (Flow) yoga.
You will learn how to sequence classes and you will obtain the necessary skills to teach.

How many students do you accept per YTTC?

We limit our groups to 25-26 students. This is a perfect number for both students and teachers.  Students can experience the benefits of group energy, practice real teaching scenarios. Yet, teachers can provide the personal attention students need and deserve.

What is the age profile of the students?

The course welcomes practitioners of all ages.  75% of the group is between 25 to 35 years old. The rest is either younger or more mature, between 50 and 60 years of age and older.

What specific subjects are taught in the theory classes?

In 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Alpha Yoga School, you'll cover Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and Vinyasa Flow Yoga. You will learn essential sequencing principles so that you can create Vinyasa classes. You'll explore more than 51 yoga postures and focus on correct positioning, common misalignments, modifications, and hands-on adjustments.

Can I teach Power Yoga after I finish this course?

Once you complete our yoga teacher training, you will be qualified and confident to teach Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga, often called Flow Yoga.
Power Yoga is another modern yoga style very similar to Vinyasa Yoga. You could say that Ashtanga Yoga is the mother of Vinyasa Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga is the mother of Power Yoga. This also means that Ashtanga is the most powerful style of all these styles. Power yoga focuses more on strength and sweating, less on flexibility, meditation, or chanting.
These are elements that can be brought, depending on the teacher, into a Vinyasa yoga class.
There are not many teacher training that will train you how to teach Power yoga only. If you can teach Vinyasa yoga, and then attend, say 10 power yoga classes, you will know how to teach Power yoga yourself…

Will we learn pregnancy/prenatal yoga?

We don't teach prenatal yoga. This is a niche and it's something that you will have to learn separately. Prenatal yoga courses are usually short, 50-hours maximum.

In which countries can I teach yoga after getting a certificate from Alpha Yoga School?
